By Jamie Ford
Number of time I read it: Once
Story plot: Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet is historical fiction. It is a bestselling novel (2009) by Jamie Ford about the love and friendship between Henry Lee, a Chinese-American boy, and Keiko Okabe, a Japanese American girl, during the internment in World War II.
Why I loved it: Its based on a true story and you can really feel the emotions all the way through the book. You really begin to understand each character and become invested in their story.
The book itself was really well written; it pulled me along with it all the way through. I started this book on Kindle unlimited but lost it halfway through when I ended my subscription. I eventually managed to get the book again on Kindle and picked up right where I left off. Even with a 2-month gap, I slipped right back into the story and couldn’t put it down until it was done.
Spoiler alert! You WILL cry… this is such a beautiful and bittersweet story, I doubt you will get through it without a damp eye at best. Don’t let this deter you though. You’ll be happy you read it.
As this is a true story, you can actually find the Panama Hotel still standing in Seatle, so if you’re in the area and fancy a cheeky jaunt out- go find it and send me a picture will ya!
Happy reading Adventurers!

That’s the best way to write. People love it when it’s just straightforward how you feel.
Thank you!
